A day will come when you think yourself safe and happy, and suddenly your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth, and you'll know the debt is paid.

This is for you bro, A goodbye to Saujan Lamichhane

I met him (Saujan) in my class. He was tall (I mean taller than me), he wore glasses, and he had only small circle of friends. I guessed he was a nerd and my assumption was correct. He used to sit in the first bench while I would be in the last or second last bench. Our usual talk would be something like this:

During hiking to nagarkot
Saujan, me and Shauhardha during hiking

                                            He: Hey buddy, what’s up?

Me: Cool bro, What about you?
                                            He: I am good.

*End of chat with an awkward smile*

Meanwhile my last bench friends were the coolest guys. One would give a damn in the class and he finally graduated top of the class. Other would not talk much, kind of shy in class but he was cool from inside. He was an average Student I meant he was genius but I don’t know in his exams. He didn’t perform as we expected. And other two guys were how I put this softly? Huh useless. I mean not useless in that way but both of them didn’t graduate high school with us. They use to talk in class, make fun of other people and so on. Finally, me. I was like mixed up with those. So, I had mixed behaviors. Sometimes I would not give a damn, sometimes I was silent, and sometimes I was always talking.

We used to have break in the afternoon. Someone would go to the canteen, someone to the ground and the remaining would sit in the class. I used to play Football and Basketball. So, I had pretty good connection with my seniors and my other class mates. This year moved so fast. And at the end of the first year I was pretty more talking with him. I mean he was good at Math’s. I was good at physics too, but only physics. After the first year I moved on to the first bench with him. I mean I needed good grades to graduate. Out of the blue we were good friends. We used to hang out together with Shauhardha. (Shauhardha was our bench mate). He was cool. Shau and I started talking about girls meanwhile he would not talk who he liked in the class. I mean there was one hot girl in the class and everybody had eye on her. Shau and I used to talk about you know guys thing. Slowly we taught him everything. He was now cool to fit in our group. Time passed on. We three used to hang out together whether it was playing Table tennis or playing Futsal (Playing football in basketball ground for us was Futsal) or studying together. We were best bro’s. We were like the three musketeers.

The final year of high school was approaching nearer. We all had to graduate at any cost. Saujan was the genius of all. So, we thought we would try group study. The venue’s was at Shau’s place. We gathered at the afternoon and studied the whole day. I mean we didn’t whole day. It was like half studying and the other half was music, foods, talking and playing FIFA. However we managed to study a bit and graduated high school. Saujan was genius but didn’t graduate the top of the class. Abhishek, the guy with whom I used to sit in the last bench graduated top of the class.

After that we used to hang out together. All three of us and sometimes with other guys too. We joined an Organization Himalayan Climate Initiative as interns and interned there for two months. Saujan was planning to study his Bachelor’s in The United States Of America. I planned to go to Australia but after sometime I changed my decision. I thought I was good in Nepal. Meanwhile, Shau was planning to join the Army. By that time we all had decided our paths. We all would be separated. Saujan would be in USA, Shau would be in Army and I would be joining college here in Nepal. We all had taken a gap year. We graduated in 2013 but thought of joining college in 14.

2013 passed in a blink of eye. And one random day when I went to Saujan’s home, we talked about family. And I knew he was a distant relative of mine. He was my big brother by family relation. This family relation made our friendship and I do not wan’t to use the word stronger. We all were single and said if anyone ever had a girlfriend, no matter what, “Bro’s before hoes”.

Tomorrow Saujan will be departing for the so called American Dream. Unfortunately Shau and I could not bid a last good bye to him at the airport because we have our entrance test tomorrow. But we will manage to go in his house and give a last hug.

May his dreams come true and get every success in his life what he was dream t for. He said he would come back in summer after two years but these two years would be very long. It would never be like the final two years of our high school.

And once more Best of Luck for your Stay in the United States of America. BE back after a couple of years and we will be waiting there for you.  If I write more I would literally not cry but you know be full of emotions in my eyes. So Good Luck bro. Remember the ASS (Anish, Shauhardha and Saujan) group.
